Twittering To My Tweetple

TwitterTwitter.com is my best pick for a social networking community.  I first heard of Twitter about 10 months ago and in early Nov decided to jump into the unknown.  I was not familiar with social networking at all.  I had heard of many of them, but I did not think that I had a need at all for a facebook account or to be found on dig or any of the other many types of social networking out there.

If you are new to social media you might be asking, what is Twitter?  Twitter is a micro-blogging platform and is a great way to stay in touch with friends, make new contacts, network with those of similar interest, and a wonderful outlet to share your knowledge of any subject.  You send out what is called a Tweet.  You must keep your conversation to 140 characters, and for those of us that are long winded that is a challenge.

When I first thought of trying Twitter, I had a lot of questions.  Who would ever follow me?  What would I even tweet about?  In fact I did not even know what a tweet was.  I literally was tweeting to myself in those early days of my using Twitter.  I could share that the weather was getting colder, and I was telling myself what I was doing and what I was thinking.  Soon I started to have a few people following me, and shortly I had that 100 number I never thought possible.  Within a very short period of time I hit my 2000 mark.  I really could not even believe that.  Today, I still cannot believe that I have such a large amount of following, with over 21,000 as of this writing.  So please follow me on Twitter!

You can use Twitter for many things.  It has become a great tool for many business owners.  You can use it to grow your network of people that have similar interest.  I have found lots of people love to share their knowledge with you.  Your stream is the people that are following you.  You want to be very sure that you try to connect with those that are in your stream.  If someone does take the time to connect with you, then try to answer them within a reasonable amount of time.

If you do use Twitter for business, there are many resources out there that can help you learn how to best do this.  This guide is a great tool for the business owner that wishes to discover how to use Twitter to build their brand or grow their niche awareness.

I have been using Twitter for about 6 months now.  I have listened to all of the gurus tell me to follow them, and then I watch them follow hardly no one.  They expect you to listen to what they have to say, but they do not ever talk directly to you.  Many people believe that they must follow these people and that they need to listen to everything that they say.  I have found that I am developing relationships on Twitter.  As these relationships grow, they share me with their stream.  I have started to have some very loyal followers that not only listen to me, but they help me by sharing my links with those in their own streams.  This practice is called Retweeting (RT).

Twitter is more than a tool for business for me.  It has become a life line that I have with many special friends.  These strong friendships were developed only because I was able to send tweets and connect with these great people.  To find wonderful people to follow on Twitter might seem like a challenge.  It does not have to be.  If you are following me, I send out recommendations every day of people that add value to my stream.

Another great way to find followers is with some of the Twitter software out there. There are many new tools that are being developed for Twitter.  From time to time, I will select some that are my picks.  Tomorrow is the launch date for a tool that I have had the opportunity to pretest.  I will be blogging about that tomorrow so be sure to check my blog out in the morning.  You will not want to miss the opportunity to try out this new software yourself.  Launch time is 10 AM EST tomorrow, see you then!
